The Journey of the Designer’s Own Garden - Part 2
Early Action and the Vision: Progress towards the Landscape Solution
Renovating gives me the opportunity to bring in some beautiful paving, rectify existing hard landscaping issues, and to create more garden space for my favourite plants and to experiment with new and interesting plant species.
Due to the presence of so many existing trees, I need to get more light into both front and rear gardens, for the sun loving plants to thrive.
Whilst the plan was being developed, I was impatient to see progress towards the landscape solution. My first step was to employ an arborist to remove two smaller pears and the weed trees along driveway, reduce the Elaeocarpus hedge height to below the power line and give other trees a formative prune. The hedges were pruned a little later.
I have recently noticed the decking boards will require cleaning and oiling soon.

The ornmanental pears (Pyrus Calleryana) are looking beautiful in blossom and when in leaf they will soften the tall houses behind us. The Burgundy Redbud Tree (Cercis ‘Forest Pansy’) is just errupting with tiny burgundy heart shaped leaves. Hedges are putting on new growth.
